WHAT HAPPENS AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
At your first appointment we will take a thorough history of your symptoms, including any previous treatment you have had, your medical history, information about your lifestyle and we will complete screening for any musculoskeletal, bladder or bowel problems. Considering the nature of pelvic problems, we understand that some of the questions we ask may be of a sensitive nature. Please be reassured our service is highly confidential and respects the very intimate nature of the problems you may wish to discuss with us.
As part of the examination we may assess your posture, tummy muscles, pelvis, lower back and have a look at you performing relevant movements, activities or exercises.
If your problems are related to your pelvic floor, a digital internal vaginal or anal examination will be offered to assess the function of your pelvic floor muscles. This would also include screening for prolapse. Pelvic Health physiotherapists are specialists in examining pelvic floor muscles internally. If required we will feed back to your GP regarding any medical concerns that are highlighted.
An internal examination provides the therapist with valuable information about your condition and your pelvic floor; including muscle strength, length, control, sensation, tone, scar tissue and pain. This allows us to help plan an appropriate treatment plan. However any examination is optional and you can decline or change your mind at anytime. You are also entitled to a chaperone. You are welcome to bring a friend or a family member if you wish, as an informal chaperone. If you would like a formal chaperone present please inform us prior to your appointment.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CHANGE AN APPOINTMENT?
Unfortunately missed or cancelled appointments can impact on the quality of the care we can provide to all of our patients. Missed appointments also incur costs for therapists. We do understand that appointments are often cancelled for genuine and unavoidable reasons, but in view of the above we ask that you graciously accept our policy. Thank you.
We request that you please give 48 hours notice in the event that you cannot attend your appointment.
Any appointment cancelled or altered for any reason with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at 50% of the full fee.
If a patient misses an appointment without contacting us, this counts as a missed appointment and will incur the full appointment fee.
If you arrive late we will do our best to deliver your full appointment, however this may not always be possible and your full fee will still stand.
